Reflection question 7: The fig tree is a symbol of the promised Land and is the only tree mentioned in the garden of Eden. It was symbolic of the blessings of God. In this parable Jesus invites the listener to be ‘the fig tree’. After waiting 3 years a logical and good farmer would cut it down. It is wasting soil. By God’s mercy it is allowed 1 more year – but the fig tree is still ‘under judgment’. Consider the ‘gift of another year’ before meeting God. How would you live repentance?
